Another pastime of mine over the last few years has been making jewelry. I took some classes in the 90’s while in college to learn how to design and create jewelry, and I really enjoyed it. So, after repeatedly almost losing a coin that I had carried for many years that was very important to me, I decided to try to dust off some of the knowledge of working with precious metals and make something to prevent that.
The end result was a coin ring, and it was shockingly easy to make. Since then I have many, many, more. I tend to want to use coins that are uncommon or otherwise hard to get, and that has made the process more difficult, but the results are definitely more unique. Below are a few of the more fun ones I did, including a set I made for my brother and his wife as wedding rings. At some point I plan to get back into casting, but so far that’s been too time consuming to take on.
